Maui’s whale season builds gradually rather than starting on a single date. A few humpbacks usually turn up in late October or November, numbers climb through December, and the season runs into April. Because of that ramp, our tour lineup looks different in November than it does in February.
Through the shoulder weeks, our Maui Dolphin Tour and Whale Search runs along the west coast out of Lāhainā. It is a stay-dry sightseeing trip built around searching for spinner dolphins, with early humpbacks a real possibility once they start filtering in.
What Peak Season Looks Like From the Raft
Once the Auʻau Channel fills, we add dedicated whale watching departures throughout the day, so guests can pick a morning, midday, or late-afternoon slot depending on how the rest of their trip is shaped.
Group size stays the same either way. Our rafts carry far fewer guests than a large tour boat, which is what makes a trip feel less like a cruise and more like a morning on the water with a local crew.
